Learning Objectives

After completing this course, you will be better able to:
  • Detect clues for secondary headaches and apply the diagnostic criteria for migraine
  • Communicate treatment options for the acute treatment of migraine
  • Utilize migraine preventive options, including behavioural and pharmacological approaches

Course Topics

  • Module 1: Diagnosis and Lifestyle counselling
    Review the diagnostic approach for patients presenting with headache and discuss lifestyle counselling for migraine 
  • Module 2: Acute Treatment and Medication Overuse Headache 
    Describe the management of acute treatment of migraine and medication-overuse headache
  • Module 3: Preventive Treatments 
    Summarize first-line options for migraine prevention and define the place of second-line therapies (onabotulinum toxin type A, CGRP antibodies, and gepants)
  • Module 4: Hormonal Factors and Auras
    Review the management of menstrual migraine, contraception in the woman with migraine with aura, pregnancy management, and menopausal issues
  • Module 5: Focus on CGRP Blockade
    Assess the characteristics of CGRP mAbs and gepants for migraine and define their integration in clinical practice for acute and preventive migraine treatment
